Yellow-naped Amazons

The purpose of this blog is to highlight birds we have and to share thoughts and opinions on all things birds and plants. For our first topic I would like to highlight Yellow-naped amazons.

We have two Yellow-naped Amazons at the store. The one pictured is named Sinbad. Sinbad is a fourteen year old male who loves to sing and mimic different animal noises. His favorite song to sing is 'I left my heart in San Francisco' and his favorite animals are a dog and a crow. He adores girls and has a hard time trusting males, he always asks 'Wheres the girls!?' but if you take the time to get to know him he will love you regardless.

Amazons are very complex birds each with their own distinct personality. You will have plenty of time to figure them out though because these Amazons can live up to seventy years in captivity. Their ability to mimic makes them a great pet. They add life and energy to any home. They will constantly fascinate you with the antics and phrases they develop over time. Very exotic looking these birds will wow your family and friends.

They are relatively easy to care for. Eating a simple diet of seeds, fruit, and vegetables. If you really want to spoil your bird you can share some of your 'table food' such as pastas, yogurt, healthy cereals such as cheerios, and plenty of other foods. The top things to avoid are avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, and anything high in sugar or salt. Try to keep their diet as natural as possible. Good seed mixtures can be found at a variety of stores. Avoid chain stores because they are very over priced.

Spend at least an hour and half a day with them and provide plenty of toys for them when you are not around.

We would love to help you find the next addition to your family so if you live in southern California please stop by the store! Does anyone have any stories to share about these kinds of birds?
